Good article and a nice study, she covers the rise of microtransactions in RS3 and the concerns which go with them nicely. Not convinced by the Jagex responses, little too obscure for me to think there will be significant developments concerning balancing real world cash against time investment. I recently played old school for a couple months and poured in a lot of time enjoying the nostalgia of ~2004. In that time and since my 27 year-old brother has dropped back into his OSRS Gold dependence and spend amounts on microtransactions. When I see him playing it's really clear just how many paths you will find to invest money.
RuneScape was runescape that characterized my adolescence and adolescent years. Ever since they started selling microtransactions they've made similar empty promises simply to drop back into old patterns once the hate died down. Take a look at this promise made. The real changes since then are more aggressive monetization and an runescape player count. Runescape is on it's last legs. Thankfully, OSRS has a stronger population and has more content updates so there is at least one variant of RuneScape worth playingwith.
Jagex will fuck OSRS though. They are pretty big for a game developer. And since firms are constantly about expansion and do not want to downsize, if they do not develop another game they'll need to maintain their 200 dev team somehow.Till that the Chinese overloards are gone, I do not have a lot of faith.
Always appreciated how excellent RS/OSRS's wiki's have been compared to a lot of games on the market, and love the assistance from Jagex on this. The wiki is fantastic for brand new runescape players as a dedicated place for advice (particularly when runescape is indeed enormous like it's ).Yeah, it's wonderful just how much Jagex supports the wikis now. Jagex tried making their own wiki from the pre-eoc times (whenever the runescape player run wiki was popular), and they failed miserably. Why Jagex attempted to compete with them I'm still curious.
As someone who's never played RSGoldFast I'm curious what the tug is finished other MMO'S making it so popular? It's a sandbox MMORPG which lets you do whatever you want in a medieval-like fantasy world. There are no skill trees. There are no quests that are linear that are required. (However there are plenty of quests that take countless hours to finish ).
